Peak Week. #21.
This Saturday I’ll be stepping on the platform for my 21st powerlifting meet, a journey that started all the way back in 2013 when I totaled 1425 at 242 lbs. Since then, the sport has taken me places I never imagined. I became the first powerlifter in Rochester to total 2000lbs, started my own coaching business, and opened Legends 24/7 Gym, the strongest gym in the city, but the numbers and accomplishments were never the whole story.
Over the years, I’ve been blessed to train alongside some of the most dedicated and driven people in upstate New York from Syracuse to Buffalo at places like Hercules Gym, the old Blood Iron Barbell, Elite in Niagara Falls, and most recently at Childress Performance Center under the late, great Paul Childress. Paul guided me into my last meet in 2023, where I competed in multi-ply for the first time going 8/9 hitting all my third attempts for a 2150 total at 242. It was the last meet Paul attended, and I’ll carry that memory with me forever.
Since then, I’ve had two surgeries, a torn pec and a hernia repair within 12 months of each other and I’ve juggled a lot… coaching The Crew, running Legends 24/7 Gym, and working full time as a security supervisor at Ginna Nuclear Power Plant. It hasn’t always been easy to find time to train, recover, and still chase this passion, but I truly believe this is what I’m meant to do.
Powerlifting has changed a lot since I started. Some trends are great. Some are… well, let’s just say they’re not for me. But through all of it, my love for this sport has never wavered. I’ll always continue to do what I can to give back to it. But on meet day? That’s for me.
So, it might sound like a comeback, but truth is, I never left.
It’s showtime.
