Why Challenging Yourself Leads to Fulfillment

Since being off from work to recover from my bicep repair surgery, I’ve noticed something interesting. On the days when I let myself be lazy, aside from handling my athletes’ programs, emails, and behind the scenes work for the gym, my overall happiness takes a dip.

For me, I’ve found that there’s a direct correlation between productivity and fulfillment.

Now, I’m not saying you need to grind from 5am to 9pm every day. Rest and time for yourself is essential, but when I reach the end of a day and I’ve checked off the boxes I set out to complete, I feel a genuine sense of peace. A satisfaction that comes from knowing I moved the needle forward, even just a little bit.

When I give myself a “day off” and get nothing done, I don’t feel rested, I feel stuck.

The Importance of Purpose

I believe everyone needs a sense of purpose. Without it, the days start to blend together and you lose that inner drive that gives life meaning. Purpose doesn’t have to mean chasing massive goals every day, it can simply mean contributing in a way that matters to you.

For some, that might be being the best parent possible, showing up for your kids (or in my case cats), teaching them something new, or being someone they can look up to. For others, it might mean pursuing a passion project, improving your health, or building a business that helps people.

For me, it’s coaching athletes, creating better systems for Legends, and finding ways to improve both myself and the people around me.

Forward Is Forward

No matter what your purpose is, taking small, intentional steps toward it, each day gives you momentum and momentum builds fulfillment. You don’t need to conquer everything at once. You just need to feel like you’re moving forward.

In my opinion, that’s what life is really about progress, not perfection.

So, I challenge you to ask yourself, what can I do tomorrow to feel like I took a step in the right direction?
